Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said her country is "highly likely" to hold a new referendum on independence from Britain in order to maintain its position in the European Union. She was speaking on June 24, just hours after results showed Britain as a whole voting to leave the EU, although a majority of Scots voted to remain. Scotland rejected becoming independent in a referendum in 2014, with 55 percent voting to stay in the United Kingdom at the time. (Reuters)
