Orthodox Christian leaders and members of the ruling Georgian Dream party took part in a march marking Family Purity Day on May 17. The new holiday was created in 2014 in reaction to demonstrations marking the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia. Georgian LGBT activists say they no longer mark that event out of fears for their safety.
