Former Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic began his defense at the war crimes tribunal in The Hague by saying that instead of being accused, he should be praised for his efforts to maintain peace. Karadzic is defending himself against charges of genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity committed during the Bosnian war of the early 1990s. (Reuters)
