BISHKEK -- Activists of a movement supporting the restoration of RFE/RL's radio and television programs to popular stations in Kyrgyzstan gathered on May 18 in Bishkek's central square, RFE/RL's Kyrgyz Service reports.

About 100 demonstrators held signs, some of which read: "Radio Azattyk Is The People's Radio!" and "Restore Freedom of Speech!"

In October, Kyrgyz authorities stopped rebroadcasting RFE/RL's programs in Kyrgyz on local FM radio stations while at the same time ending RFE/RL's two weekly television programs on the state television station.
