Afghan Delegates Visit Pakistan To Discuss Action Plan

Kabul has sent a high-level government delegation to Pakistan to discuss an action plan after Islamabad-hosted peace talks with the Taliban were suspended in July.

Afghan President Ashraf Ghani's spokesman Zafar Hashemi said the delegation visiting Islamabad on August 13 is led by Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabbani.

He said it also includes Afghan national intelligence chief Rahmatullah Nabil and acting Defense Minister Masoon Stanekzai.

They were scheduled to meet Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and other Pakistani officials.

The one-day visit follows an angry speech by President Ghani, who claimed Pakistan was involved in a wave of devastating recent Taliban attacks in Kabul that killed dozens.

The first-ever direct talks between the Afghan government and the Taliban was hosted by Pakistan in July.

But a second round of talks was postponed after the announcement that Taliban leader Mullah Mohammad Omar died two years ago.
