Russia's Abramovich To Remain Regional Governor

February 9, 2007 -- The Kremlin said today that Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich will remain governor of the region of Chukotka.

Abramovich is Russia's richest man and owner of the top English soccer club Chelsea.

In December, he said he wanted to quit as governor of the Far Eastern region. Media reports at the time said the Kremlin put pressure on him to stay on.

He has said Russia is ready to listen to "well-intentioned criticism," but will not allow anyone to interfere in its internal affairs.
