Thousands of people gathered in Aurora, Colorado, late on July 22 to mourn victims of the July 20 cinema massacre in the town.

U.S. President Barack Obama said after visiting a hospital in Aurora that he hugged and "shed tears" with survivors and relatives of the 12 people who were killed.

Obama says he told them the entire country is "thinking about them."

The suspect in the shootings, 24-year-old James Holmes, is due in court on July 23 to be formally charged in the case.

After defusing explosives at Holmes' apartment, police on July 22 recovered a computer belonging to Holmes that could provide clues about how he planned the massacre.

Police said there is no evidence Holmes had any accomplices.

Holmes was arrested after the rampage during the screening of a new Batman film, The Dark Knight Rises," shortly after midnight on July 20.
