An Italian court has ruled that the captain of the cruise ship that ran aground and capsized off the coast of Tuscany last month, killing as many as 32 people, must remain under house arrest.
The court in Florence rejected both a request from the prosecution that Captain Francesco Schettino be held in prison and a defense call for him to be released pending the investigation.
Schettino was arrested the day after the January 13 disaster, accused of manslaughter and abandoning the "Costa Concordia" before all the 4,200 passengers and crew were evacuated.
Last week, authorities called off the search for bodies on the ship, after recovering 17 bodies.
Fifteen people are still unaccounted for.
Salvage crews are pumping oil from the wreck of the cruise liner to mitigate the environmental effects of the disaster.
