Karadzic: 'I Should Be Rewarded'

By RFE/RL
Bosnian Serb wartime political leader Radovan Karadzic has begun his defense at the UN war crimes tribunal by denying all allegations against him.

Karadzic is facing 10 charges of genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity committed during the 1992-95 Bosnian War.

One charge relates to a massacre by Bosnian Serb troops at Srebrenica in July 1995 in which some 8,000 Bosnian Muslim men and boys were killed.

"I never, ever allowed even the possibility for the smallest atrocity to take place, let alone any atrocities on a mass scale, or for any of these people to be permanently removed from Serbian territory," Karadzic said. "I did not, nor did anyone else that I know of."

Prosecutors at the International Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia have also accused him of responsibility for the shelling of the Bosnian capital, Sarajevo, when it was under siege by Bosnian Serb forces from 1992 to 1996.
Instead of being accused of what happened during our civil war, I should have been awarded.

But Karadzic told the court that, far from being accused, he should praised for his efforts to promote peace.

"Instead of being accused of what happened during our civil war, I should have been awarded," he said, "and here is why: I did everything possible, [everything] in human power, to avoid the war."

His trial started in 2009 and prosecutors rested their case in May.

Karadzic, 67, who is defending himself and will cross-examine witnesses himself, told the court that he was a "mild, a tolerant man with great capacity to understand others."

He has been allocated 300 hours to defend himself.

Karadzic was arrested in 2008, 13 years after he was first indicted on charges of masterminding Serb atrocities during the war.

In June, Karadzic had one charge of genocide dismissed. The charge was related to the forcible expulsion from Bosnia of hundreds of thousands of non-Serbs.

In September, the UN court rejected Karadzic’s request for a new trial. Karadzic had accused prosecutors of being late in disclosing evidence favorable to his defense.

Former Bosnian Serb military leader Ratko Mladic, who was collaborating closely with Karadzic, went on trial in The Hague this year.

Meanwhile, Croatian Serb former rebel leader Goran Hadzic also went on trial at The Hague.

Hadzic, 54, is the last suspect charged by the international tribunal with war crimes during the Balkan wars to be prosecuted. He faces 14 accounts of war crimes and crimes against humanity for his role in the 1991-95 war in Croatia, including the massacre of civilians taken from Vukovar hospital in 1991.

Prosecutors say Hadzic, president of the self-proclaimed Republic of Serbian Krajina from 1992-94, was responsible for killings and forced deportation of minority ethnic Croats from the region after the Croatian government in Zagreb broke away from Yugoslavia in 1991.

He was arrested by Serbian authorities in 2011.

Karadzic is brave and honest man any nation would be proud of. The Haague "tribunal" is a sham kangaroo court set up by US government to prosecute enemies of US government. Virtually any honest person is the enemy of US government.

Your moniker would be more correct as "Smoking Crack Jack".

Just drop ol' Radovan off on the steets of Sarajevo or Srebrenica and let the citizens decide how innocent he really is.

with the same logic, drop any leader of Kosovo Liberation Army, a terrorist group which engaged in ethnic cleansing of Kosovo of all non-Muslims, and which was sponsored and supported by US government, drop any leader of KLA on the street of Belgrade, and see what will happen to them.. you are lucky US government protects "peaceful Muslim activists", even as peaceful Muslim activists kill Americans, 10,000 already killed, but Hillary thinks that is not enough

Jack is like his hero Rasho just a sociopath, a racist and a xednophobe.
Makes me wish I had a daughter so I could forbid her to marry him (but then he may have just as much sex appeal as a road accident) [With apologies to Douglas Adams]

Wonderful comment, you...
Then, according to you, Kim Il Sung, Mao, Fidel Castro, Pol Pot, Abimael Guzmán, Saddam Hussein, Kaddafi and not to forget Hafiz and Bashar el Assad must be great heroes of humanity too. So it turns out Karadzic is a friend of al people in general. Witgh frinds like that, who needs enemies? And of course he wanted to keep peace in Bosnia. The peace of the graveyard that is.

Dear Camel Anaturk, you are one of the most hateful individuals I've ever met. Compared to you even Karadzic and Pol Pot are angels. Your moral and intellectual dweficiencies are appalling. You are just like Julius Streicher if you know whom I'm talking about. Your incoherent gibberish would make me laugh if it weren't so disgusting how you callously and inhumanely dismiss the victims of the genocidal anti-Bosniak crusade as fakes and how you dehumanize us Mooslims. You are 100% inhumane. God help us all if people like you should ever gain any political clout. It's because of people lik,e you that I have No sympathy whatsoever for the PKK because your hero Öcalan is no better than Stalin was. So you think just because one is Muslim you have teh rigfht to snuff him or to provoke others to snuff him. Yes, I will defend my life and that of my brethren. Call me a terrorist for that? Us balije will prevail and you stailinbist mosnters will be consdigned to the dust heap of history where you belong. Toghter with the serbofascists you admire so much you hateful....
AND I DON'T NEED, AND MUCH LESS ACCEPT A LESSON FROM A DECLARED ENEMY OF MY People!!! SO STOP wasting your and especisally MY time.

To Abdulmajid/Anonymous: You are absolutely right, Abdulmajid, Camel Anaturk is good for nothing - he is even worse than Izetbegovic and all those other servants of the US and Saudi interests on the Balkans. You, guys, have absolutely nothing to do in Sarajevo and other Serbian cities - your place is in Saudi Arabia and that's where you will end up once your US bosses have gone bankrupt and have been kicked out of the Balkans a couple of years from now. So, you can already buy a one way ticket to Er-Rhiad, Abdulmajid, and once you are there Camel will not waste your precious time any more - you will be able to dedicate it entirely to the study of Koran, and who knows, maybe they will even ask to perform a special mission in Syria - your Saudi bosses need people for this kind of missions these days.

Don't try to blame us for that too. And no, I'm not going to Saudi Arabia or anywhere soon, my homeland IS my homeland and I will see to it that it remains so for generations to come and that my people are respected. Do you have the NERVE to call me a terrorist for that??? Then I habve teh right to call you genocidal and fascist. You are just INHUMAN. Why don't you go to Russia?

Ah, Eugenio form Vienna, the heroic defender of Serbdom, is at it again defending his greatest hero, a true humanitarian. -click- irony off. Sociopath, fascist, racist, xenophobe, misanthropist, enemy of mankind and that's just the mildest things one can say about Rasho and his defenders. As for your incoherent and blind hateful anti-Muslim gibberish I'll better refrain from saying what I do with it or where you can stick it. I'm NOT going to Saudi Arabia or anywhere, Sarajevo was NEVER and will NEVER be "a Serbian city" (what an insult!!!) and us balije are in the Balkans to STAY and I hope my graet-great-great-great (to the power of 270) grandchildren will remind your descendants 100.000 years hence of what TWerPs have done to us balije in the name of TWERPdom just because our ancestors happen to be Mooslims. Yes,Radovan is a very very bad man indeed. The Americans say that,so we must believe them. They just forgot to mention Radovan was also responsible for the first recorded Genocides in history-seven of them-in the bible. He also shed rivers of blood colonizing the world when the sun never set in his Great Empire.Radovan comitted also genocides against the arabs, assyrians, bulgarians, greeks and all non-turkic peoples in the Great Ottoman Turkey Empire.Radovan comitted the first genocide of the 20th c.-against the armenians.Radovan was also responsible for the 1917 `Revolution` in Russia, resulting in more han 30 million deaths.Radovan did the Khmer Rouge genocides in Kampuchea, when the good old USA sided with the pol pot murderers in the good old UN,we can see him killing further millions in Rwanda and everywhere else as witnessed in Samantha Power`s books-see Genocide watch. So,we must hang him high,to show the world AmericanDemockracy is the best and biggest in this world.Only the zionist one comes close, and we forgot to mention a few million injuns, killed and scalped personally by Bad Old Radovan. So,God Bless America and its profound and non-materialist sense of justice. And Israel, too!!!

Yet more incoherent blah blah blah and blind hate speech from an individual who is clearly a racist, xenophobe, misanthropist and sociopath. Who unitesde in his persons all what is evil about mankind and effectively has resigned from the human race. Who shows in each and every of his words what an inhuman creature he is. Who incites to genocide and mass murder. And such hate speech is allowed to pass here asnd in response I may only deliver the mildes trebuke and have to let such fiends say things about the Bosniaks which would land them in jail if they spoke such about the Jews. Shame on you guys here! why don't you blocj nazi-like hate speech and crude anti-Muslim jingoism instead? haven't you heard that fascism is a crime and not an opinion even though who utters it may be half or completely crazy? why give guys who defend Radovan Karadzic, one of the most despicable figures of all human history, a platform here to continue mocking his victims? Shame on you.

Maybe I exceeded myself a little bit when I thought about "boiling him alive". Surely I'm not the only one who thinks like that. That's human nature, and besides that, this individual is exceptional in his ideas and his crimes so he does merit an exceptional treatment (even though I admit it's not up to me to decide what this should be; i hope they will find the right one for him) so I ask your indulgence. I apologize for that to you, dear mod, but NOT to the declared enemies of my people. So, message repeats: After all I'm not supposed to express myself around here with violence, but only in courteous and gentle terms, and not offer the declared enemies of my people more than the mildest form of rebuke. Riiight, riiight. BUT... what about the constant stream of Muslim-baiting, Islam-bashing, genocidal anti-Bosniak hate speech, xenophobia, crude anti-Bosniak and anti-Muslim jingoism you regularly let pass, or is that just supposed to show the whole world where the place of us "balije, Turks and turncoats" really is???

Since the Greater Serb chauvinists on this and other forums always try to justify the Greater Serb Genocidal Anti-Bosniak Crusade with what was done to Serbs in Ottoman times, under the Austrohungarians and the Nazis I can only say once more: that is no excuse. Jasenovac can never justify, mitigate or exonerate Srebrenica. Don't EVER come up with that again. Some of these TWerPs blab about kicking Muslims out of the Balkans. My reply is, as always has been: The Cross will Never chase the Crescent out of Bosnia, the Sandzak or Kosovo. Period. Sarajevo IS NOT, Never was and Never will be a "Serbian city." Bosnia was NEVER Serb and there never was a Serb state west of the Drina. I'm sorry I gave in to rage in my last replies, dear mods, but I don't regret anything I said to the serbofascists. But if I get such response from people who purport to stand for Serbia, what can I say? Islamophobic hate speech, Muslim-bashing, Bosniak-baiting, questioning and challenging the existence of the Bosniak people and Bosnian state, calling Bosniaks "turncoats, traitors, Turks, jihadists" to convenience, all these things are unacceptable. Given all the crude anti-Muslim jingoism and hate speech I hear here, and not a word of regret or apology, and with Nikolic and Dacic parroting Milosevic's hate speech, I cannot but feel that the serbofascists must be stopped if they ever try to destroy Bosnia, and that includes Dodik or somebody other declaring separation of "repluka srpska" from Bosnia or even "enosis" with Serbia proper. And I feel that that then it would be justified for the Bosniaks to summarily execute any Greater Serb military man from the rank of captain up (or in case of those who participated in the war of 1992-95, from lieutenent upo) and any party member of the SRS, SDS, SNSD, 1389, Nasi, Ravna Gora Cetnik Movement and generally all members of ultranationalist, or should I say national-socialist Serbofascist/Greater Serb organizations and movements; after all, Winston Churchill also suggested that ALL Nazis the Allies could get their hands on and all German military men from the rank of major up should be summarily shot upon capture without any further trial. The only reason why the Bosniaks should not do this given the chance is that there are also very decent Serbs around, like Ceda Jovanovic, the Swerbian Helsinki Committee, Sonja Biserko, the Zene u Crni and all those who showed their sympathy for the victims of the Srebrenica Genocide. I only wish their voices were heard. I also wish that such figures as Radovan Karadzic and Ratko Mladic were cut down to size at The Hague so that intead of grandstanding for their supporters at home and tauntging their victims they'd be exposed for what they are, a pitiful collection of mediocre, insignificant, evil, misanthropic, racist, fascist, xenophobic, jingoistic figures. It's too bad that not only individuals of mediocre to deficient intelligence defend the serbofascists through hate speech and crude anti-Muslim jingoism on the Internet but also people with university degrees and professor titles (but then the Nazis had such figures too to justify the Holocaust), people of great intelligence and education but completely depraved and utterly devoid of morals and decency. If their voices are let to prevail and the Serbs do not distance themselves from the genocidal crusade against the Bosniaks - and saying "yeah, horrible crimes were committed by Serb individuals but not genocide and Serbia never committed genocide" is just not acceptable. A full apology for genocide must be issued like the Germans had to do to the Jews. Else there can be no reconciliation. Indeed, even though I myself reject genocide as a means of politics I would understnd if the Bosniaks would want to deal with the Serbs in the same way the Serbs dealt with the Bosniaks in 1941-45 and 1992-95. That is, like the Romans did with the Carthaginians.

Srebrenica was just the peak of the genocidal anti-Bosniak crusade and it served four purposes: to complete the ethnic cleansing of Eastern Bosnia. For that it wasn't necessary to kill all Bosniaks there. It has sufficed to kill the men, and to rape many of the women (maybe 5000, but out of shame they don't tell, so we'll never know) so they'd never have children. During teh three-year siege of Srebrenica the Serbs killed men, women and children indiscriminately. Whole families were wiped out. So nobody come to me and deny it was genocide. Who does will only show he too is a genocidal. Period. And Jasenovac is no excuse, no mitigation, no exoneration of the anti-Bosniak Genocide. Even if the Croats had killed five million Serbs there. Even if the Ottomans had wiped out 75% of the Serbs in the 17th century. That gives the Serbs of today no right whatsoever to commit genocide. And I know had it not been for Operation Storm they would have done much worse in Bihac and killed maybe 20.000 people there. Mladic himself had that planned. That was to make sure that reconciliation between Bosniaks and Serbs would be impossible. That's why they did it.For 20 years I have been following this sad and weary mess and as long as a majority of Serbs continues to deny genocide (and ths want to continue genocide) against Bosniaks I will continue to lauch my own "J'accuse!" against Serbofascism and Greater Serbia and all those who support it.

I'm tired of reading disgusting anti-Muslim hate speech here, it has no place on a web site supposed to defend human rights and freeedoms, if I wanted to read the poisonous trash spouted by inhuman and genocidal racist fascist bigot Islamophobes I'd not be here, but go to atlasshrugs, jihadwatch, sioa, grayfalcon, antiwar or any such hate site concocted by intellectually and morally lacking persons (and I say that just not to call them imbeciles, morons, idiots, thugs, genocidals and fascists, which would be less tiring for me, because typing is a physically exerting and time-consuming task. But then you are so sensitive to insulting words, and so tolerant of genocidal messages if only they are shrouded in “proper” terms. Why else would you tolerate the racist xenophobic hate speech and crude anti-Muslim jingoism of people like Jack or vn from Belgrade, to name a few, and sometimes suppress my postings If I overstep the line just because the offense in their messages gets on my nerves, and at the same time I try to reflect a bit of their hatred, to put a mirror before their faces so to speak, and expose them as the hateful frauds they are? Do you realize how long it takes to think up a proper response, try to make it as reasonable as my anger at the hate speech and outright lies lets me, type it down and then try to get all the typos out, and finally post it? All in the middle of the night? I have already spent most of the night here just trying to object to at least part of today's load of offensive fascistoid racist inhuman genocidal - and serbofascist - hate speech and crude anti-Muslim jingoism and garbage worthy of a Joseph Goebbels or Julius Streicher. And sometimes pseudoscientific and pseudohistorical “justification” for and “rationalization” of anti-Bosniak genocide. If I'm fortunate I can get half an hour of sleep before I must get up and go to work again. Then come home dead tired, prepare my dinner, do the dishes and then continue this thankless job. And get only slander and derision from the islamophobes. Not a word of regret or empathy with the victims of today's fascism. Only more disdain and hate speech and propaganda lies (I think they call it dezinformacija). Some time my organism will break down, but I just have to do my part to fight against inhumanity. Humble and ineffective as it may be. At least he can't hurt anybody now. But his statements and his followers can. It is therefore more necessary than ever to stand up against them and never to show them fear, for like all bullies they are only brave when one fears them, but when one shows them no fear they run away with their tails between their legs.

The greatest irony is that, as some of the Bonsian Serbs themselves say, the whole affair since 1992 has only brought them poverty and misery. Many of them can't afford to eat more than one warm meal a day. It is only bad conscience and fear that someday they will have to answer for what they did - or what was done in their name - to Bosniaks that keeps them in line. How ironic if someday "repluka srpska" is crushed and then one of the first things the Bosniaks (that is, their charity organizations such as Merhamet) will have to do is give the Bosnian Serbs Care packages. What will the Bosnian Serbs do then? Feel humiliated, refuse them and starve? Then they will not die of hunger but of conceit and arrogance.

Er, guys and gals, you might think I'm posting too much but mind you, I haven't done it for about nine months. Have a little patience with me. Thanx.

The four purposes of the Srebrenica genocide were: 1.) to ethnically cleanse the region; 2.) of the about 8000 victims maybe 2500 were of military age, the Serbs feared that if they let them go the Bosnian Army could have trained and equipped them and by that time the Serbs were losing the war and they knew it. 3.) Karadzic and Mladic want eternal enmity between Serbs and Bosniaks, and such an act of wholesale mass murder will, so their thinking goes, make any reconciliation between Bosniaks and Serbs impossible. 4.)by killing the men and raping the women they wanted to make sure these women would never have children and that the expelled Bosniak population of Srebrenica and Podrinje will eventually die out, leaving that region in their hands forever. Their horrible miserable scheme has failed however and it is only a matter of time until it will be undone. Bosniaks will not be the Palestinians of Europe.
