U.S. President Barack Obama in a phone call with Chinese President Xi Jinping on February 10 called for "swift work" to narrow the countries' differences on cyber issues.
The White House said in a statement that Obama reiterated his commitment to pursue a comprehensive bilateral investment treaty.
U.S. officials said Obama encouraged China to continue its move toward consumption-led growth and a market-determined exchange rate.
The two leaders agreed to work together on other security issues, including negotiations with Iran intended to stop that country from obtaining nuclear weapons.
Obama also told Xi he looked forward to welcoming him to Washington for a state visit later this year.
