(RFE/RL) October 26, 2006 -- Five U.S. service personnel were reported killed in Iraq.

The U.S. military says the four Marines and one Navy serviceman were killed in western Al-Anbar Governorate on October 25, bringing to nearly 100 the number of U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq this month.

Around the city of Ba'qubah, north of Baghdad, at least six Iraqi police were killed today in insurgents attacks.

Officials in the city of Al- Najaf closed the Imam Ali Mosque, a major Shi'ite shrine, amid fear of an imminent attack.
