Pristina, 24 March 2004 (RFE/RL) -- Authorities in Kosovo say a United Nations police officer and a local Kosovo police officer have been killed in a shooting attack on a UN police vehicle.
Officials said an interpreter who was also with the patrol was injured in the shooting late yesterday north of the Kosovo capital Pristina.
It was not immediately clear who carried out the shooting and officials have reported no arrests. The attack follows last week's violence in Kosovo between the province's ethnic Albanian majority and minority Serbs that left at least 28 people dead and hundreds injured.
The European Union's foreign policy chief, Javier Solana, is expected to visit Kosovo later today to assess the situation. Kosovo today is marking the fifth anniversary of the 24 March 1999 start of the 78-day NATO bombing campaign to stop former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic's crackdown on Kosovar ethnic Albanians.
