15 May 2004 -- The commander of NATO forces in southern Europe says the alliance's peacekeeping force in Kosovo is changing the way it conducts its missions in the aftermath of a serious outbreak of ethnic violence.
During a one-day visit on 15 May, Admiral Gregory Johnson said the 19,000-strong peacekeeping force is changing its way of patrolling and communicating with locals in the province.
He offered no other details on what the changes would entail. But he called on Kosovo's bitterly divided communities to help in the "healing process" and to work jointly in creating a multiethnic society.
In mid-March, ethnic Albanian rioters attacked Serbs in two days of unrest that killed 19 people and injured more than 900.
