25 June 2004 -- Rescue officials today are attempting to identify bodies killed when a gasoline tanker truck crashed late yesterday into parked public buses in the southeastern Iranian province of Sistan-Baluchestan.
Iran's official news agency IRNA and the Iranian Red Crescent say that 90 bodies have been recovered so far, but the death toll could rise further.
The driver of the tanker apparently lost control and collided with buses full of passengers that had stopped at a police checkpoint on the highway between Bam and Zahedan.
Iran's roads are considered to be among the most dangerous in the world. Nearly 100,000 people have died in road accidents in the past five years.
