19 July 2004 -- Iraqi officials say at least nine people were killed by a car bomb that exploded outside a police station in Baghdad today.
Iraqi and U.S. military officers said more than 40 people were wounded by the explosion, which happened in the Seidiyeh neighborhood southwest of the capital as people were arriving for work.
This is the latest in a series of car bomb attacks in recent days. Yesterday in Iraq, at least 11 people were killed in a U.S. air strike on the town of Al-Fallujah.
Iraqi interim Prime Minister Iyad Allawi said he ordered the early-morning strike. The U.S. military said it was targeting what it called a den of about 25 people with suspected links to militant Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, a Jordanian accused of masterminding suicide car bombings and other attacks in Iraq.
