U.S. Marine Killed In Iraq

24 July 2004 -- The U.S. military has announced that a Marine has died of wounds sustained on yesterday in Iraq during fighting west of Baghdad, in Al-Anbar Province.
The death brings to 900 the number of U.S. troops killed in Iraq in combat (666) and by accidents and other causes (234) since the invasion to oust Saddam Hussein last year.

A total of 1,017 coalition troops have been killed in Iraq since the war began.

Meanwhile, Reuters is reporting than an explosion has set fire to an oil pipeline north of Baghdad, near the town of Samarra.

The pipeline is a subsidiary line and is not Iraq's main northern oil export line. That line has regularly been sabotaged and is currently out of commission, with no oil flowing to the port of Ceyhan in Turkey.
