10 August 2004 -- Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi says U.S. national security adviser Condoleezza Rice is insulting the world with her insistence that Tehran may be violating the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty.
Rice said in a television interview on 8 August that other countries are joining the United States in its suspicions about Iran's nuclear program.
Speaking on state radio today, Kharrazi said Rice presumes to speak for the international community when giving her personal opinions of Iran's nuclear activities.
The UN's International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is due to review Iran's nuclear program at a meeting of its board of governors in Vienna next month.
Kharrazi says the issue is whether the IAEA will become a U.S. "tool" or "rely on legal and technical issues." Tehran insists its nuclear program is for peaceful civilian purposes.
