U.S. Forces, Insurgents Clash In Baghdad

29 September 2004 -- Iraq's Interior Ministry said U.S. and Iraqi forces clashed with insurgents today on Baghdad's Haifa Street, which has been the scene of fierce fighting recently.
The U.S. military said U.S. forces last night destroyed a rocket launcher mounted on the back of a vehicle in Baghdad's Shi'a district of Al-Sadr City during an air strike that set off several secondary explosions.

Six U.S. soldiers and two Iraqis were wounded in the northern city of Mosul late yesterday, when a car bomb exploded as a U.S. convoy was passing by.

In Kyiv, the Defense Ministry said a senior Ukrainian military officer was killed and two others were injured in Iraq today in an apparent traffic accident.

As violence in Iraq continued, interim Foreign Minister Hoshiyar Zebari said the Iraqi government plans to hold a ministerial conference in Egypt in November to help restore stability in Iraq.
