7 October 2004 -- The head of the UN's International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) today called on Iran to suspend all of its uranium-enrichment-related activities.
Muhammad el-Baradei made his remarks in Toyko. His call on Iran reiterites the official position of the IAEA, which last month passed a resolution calling on Iran to halt its nuclear activities.
El-Baradei's call on Iran comes a day after the Islamic republic officially announced that it has been processing several tons of raw uranium to prepare it for enrichment.
Uranium enrichment is a process that can produce fuel for nuclear reactors or atomic weapons.
