Arab TV Reports British Hostage Killed In Iraq

8 October 2004 -- An Arabic television channel today said British hostage Kenneth Bigley had been beheaded by his captors in Iraq.
Abu Dhabi TV said its report was based on "informed sources" in Baghdad but gave no further details.

Britain's Sky News television, quoting sources in Prime Minister Tony Blair's office, also reported Bigley has been killed. Neither the Foreign Office nor the British Embassy in Iraq could confirm the report.

Iraqi Interior Ministry officials in Baghdad also said they had no information on the report.

Bigley was abducted on 16 September with two Americans from their residence in Baghdad by a group led by Jordanian militant Abu Mus'ab al-Zarqawi, who has been linked to Al-Qaeda.

The two Americans were beheaded a few days later.
