14 October 2004 -- Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in Beijing today for a three-day visit that will focus on terrorism, bilateral relations, and energy supplies.
Yesterday in Moscow, Putin reiterated the need for a united global effort in fighting terrorism. He also said Russia will place its own interests first in deciding whether to serve the needs of China or Japan through a planned Far Eastern oil pipeline.
Putin is due to meet with Chinese President Hu Jintao in Beijing today and sign documents on political, economic, humanitarian, and international cooperation.
On 8 October, Putin is scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Wen Jiabao, who has said the meeting will likely include the signing of an agreement supporting Russia's accession to the World Trade Organization.
The ITAR-TASS news agency says Putin will depart for an official visit to Tajikistan on 16 October.
