Mass Execution Scene Found In Iraq

24 October 2004 -- Authorities in Baghdad say 43 Iraqi soldiers and five civilians have been found executed in Iraq.
Interior Ministry spokesman Adnan Abdul Rahman said today the victims were killed yesterday on a road near Baquba, about 150 kilometers east of Baghdad.

Lieutenant Ali Jawad Kadhim, a police photographer, said all the victims were shot in the back of the head.

In Al-Fallujah, U.S. warplanes bombed suspected guerrilla positions, killing at least five people and wounding some seven others.

The U.S. State Department says that an American diplomat -- an assistant regional security officer -- was killed today in a mortar attack near Baghdad airport.

Other violence left at least three people dead in Samarra and in Kirkuk.
