Iraqi Red Crescent Says Al-Fallujah 'Big Disaster'

12 November 2004 -- Aid agencies today called on U.S. forces and the Iraqi government to allow deliveries of food, water, and medicine to Al-Fallujah, where there has been intense fighting this week.
The Iraqi Red Crescent said it had asked U.S. forces and the Iraqi interim government to allow agency workers to deliver aid to Al-Fallujah and allow an emergency medical team into the city's main hospital.

The Iraqi Red Crescent said it had not received any reply yet to its request.

Red Crescent spokeswoman Firdus al-Ubadi called the fighting in Al-Fallujah "a big disaster" and said U.S. forces and the Iraqi government were responsible for looking after the health and well-being of the civilian population of the city.
