18 November 2004 -- Secretary of State Colin Powell says the United States has information suggesting that Iran is actively working on technology to adapt its missiles to carry a nuclear warhead.
Powell, speaking to reporters during a trip to Latin America, did not give further details.
Iranian state television has meanwhile reported that four people have been charged with spying on Iranian atomic sites.
The charges were reported late yesterday after an Iranian opposition group alleged that Iran had obtained weapons-grade uranium and nuclear-bomb designs from Pakistani scientist Abdul Qadeer Khan.
The group, the National Council for Resistance in Iran, is the political arm of the Mujahedin Khalq, which is listed by the United States as a terrorist orgnization.
The allegations were issued ahead of the 25 November meeting of the board of governors of the United Nations' International Atomic Energy Agency to discuss Iran's nuclear program.
Iran denies allegations it is secretly trying to make a nuclear weapon.
