22 November 2004 -- Violence continued throughout Iraq today as a major conference on the country's future began in Egypt.
In the northern city of Mosul, Sunni Muslim cleric Sheikh Feydhi Muhammed al-Feydhi was killed by masked gunmen as he emerged from an Islamic centre.
U.S. forces meanwhile uncovered a weapons cache today near Mosul. The military said the weapons stockpile included antiaircraft guns, surface-to-air missiles, and large quantities of explosives.
In Baghdad, insurgents attacked a U.S. convoy, setting fire to an armored vehicle.
In the southern city of Al-Basrah, police said a former Ba'ath Party official and a policeman were killed by unknown assailants.
U.S. forces allowed a Red Crescent convoy into the city of Al-Fallujah today for the first time since a U.S. offensive began two weeks ago.
A two-day conference got under way in the Egyptian Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh today aimed at seeking to form a common front on how to help Iraq.
The conference brings together both supporters and opponents of the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq.
