Thousands of Yushchenko supporters surrounded Ukraine's parliament during its special session on 27 November
27 November 2004 -- Ukraine's parliament declared the country's disputed presidential election invalid in a nonbinding vote today.
The parliament passed a resolution saying the 21 November runoff between Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych and opposition leader Viktor Yushchenko included many irregularities and failed to reflect the will of the voters.
The parliament also passed a resolution expressing no confidence in the Central Election Commission, which previously declared Yanukovych the winner.
Yushchenko rejected that result and demanded that a new election be held on 12 December.
Parliament speaker Volodymyr Lytvyn said during the emergency session today that "the most realistic solution" to the political crisis is to declare the election "not valid, because it is impossible to establish the real result."
Ukraine's Supreme Court is due to rule on 29 November on Yushchenko's appeal that the election result be annulled.
