29 November 2004 -- Iraqi interim Prime Minister Iyad Allawi today said that violence in the country has decreased since U.S. and Iraqi forces on 8 November launched a massive offensive against the insurgent stronghold of Al-Fallujah.
Allawi said that the cleansing in Al-Fallujah of terrorist elements continues.
Meanwhile, violence continued today in several parts of Iraq. In the western town of Al-Ramadi, a suicide car bomber detonated his vehicle outside a police station, killing at least 12 people and wounding 10 others.
The majority of the casualties were policemen who were in line to receive their salaries.
Four people were killed today in a roadside bomb explosion near the city of Al-Samarra, north of Baghdad.
In Baghdad, two U.S. troops were also killed in a roadside bomb today.
South of Baghdad, U.S.-led forces said they have killed a number of insurgents and captured others in a series of operations on suspected insurgent hideouts along the Euphrates River.
