President Tadic this morning, hours after the reported assassination attempt
1 December 2004 -- The office of Serbian President Boris Tadic announced today that he survived unharmed an apparent assassination attempt by a car that tried to smash into his vehicle in Belgrade last night.
A statement from Tadic's office says a black car attempted "several times" to crash into a vehicle carrying Tadic in central Belgrade at around 9:00 p.m. local time. The statement says Tadic's vehicle was "clearly marked."
Tadic's office says a vehicle in the president's convoy was damaged in the incident, while the black car that initiated the crash fled the scene.
Tadic was elected Serbian president in June. He took over the leadership of the pro-Western Democratic Party from Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic, who was shot dead by a sniper in March 2003 in front of his downtown Belgrade office.
