3 January 2005 -- Iraq's main Sunni Muslim party, which has already announced a boycott of the 30 January elections, now says it might also reject the new constitution that is scheduled to be drawn up after the vote.
Tareq al-Hashemi, secretary-general of the Iraqi Islamic Party, told Al-Jazeera that his party would reject the constitution if it runs counter to the movement's principles.
Al-Hashemi said the situation in Iraq is marked by chaos and violence, which does not favor holding elections that will create a national assembly.
He said the assembly will not be representative of all categories of Iraqi society.
Hashemi repeated calls from his party for the election to be postponed due to the current security situation.
