Cheney Says Iran Tops U.S. List Of Trouble Spots

20 January 2005 -- U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney says Iran is at the top of Washington's list of world trouble spots.
In a MSNBC interview today, Cheney expressed concern that Israel "might well decide to act first" to eliminate any nuclear threat from Tehran.

Cheney said the U.S. government will continue to try to use diplomacy to address what he said are concerns about Iran's nuclear weapons program and ties to terrorism.

If Iran resists demands to rein in its nuclear program, Cheney said the next step would be to take the matter to the UN Security Council and seek international sanctions.

He described Iran's nuclear program as "fairly robust."

Iran denies its nuclear facilities are for making weapons.
