31 January 2005 -- The Arabic television station Al-Jazeera today aired a videotape purporting to show Iraqi militants firing a missile that downed a British transport plane in Iraq yesterday.

The video was issued by a group calling itself the 1920 Revolution Brigades. Earlier, the Islamic militant group Ansar al-Islam released a statement claiming responsibility for the downed aircraft.

The authenticity of that statement could not be independently verified.

The cause of the plane crash, which killed 10 British military personnel, is still under investigation.

In other developments, the U.S. military says three U.S. soldiers were killed in combat today south of Baghdad.
