14 February 2005 -- Ukrainian Prime Minister Yuliya Tymoshenko today vowed to stop smuggling at the country's border.
Tymoshenko, who became prime minister 10 days ago, told reporters after a cabinet meeting that mobile teams from different state institutions will be set up within a week to catch smugglers.
She also said the action and changes to legislation to ensure taxes are paid will defend Ukraine's "producers, help the state budget and make it easier to proceed with social programs."
Tymoshenko said the administration of former President Leonid Kuchma had failed to stem smuggling because of a lack of political will.
Tymoshenko was chosen prime minister by Viktor Yushchenko, who was elected president in December.
