28 February 2005 -- The man who headed the Bosnian Muslim army during most of the 1992-1995 civil war flew out of Sarajevo today to surrender to the UN war crimes tribunal at The Hague.
General Rasim Delic faces charges relating to attrocities committed against Bosnian Croats and Bosnian Serbs during the war, including war crimes committed by a unit of foreign Islamic fighters which fought alongside the Bosnian Muslim army.
Several hundred people, including family, friends, and former soldiers came to Sarajevo airport to see Delic off. Bosnian Prime Minister Adnan Terzic was among those who attended the general's departure.
Delic agreed to give himself up earlier this month. He says he had no command responsibility for war crimes.
