30 March 2005 -- Kyrgyzstan's provisional President and Prime Minister Kurmanbek Bakiev says he believes that the leaders of Kyrgyz neighbors Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan are worried about the revolution in Kyrgyzstan.
In an newspaper interview published today, Bakiev said, however, that internal circumstances set off the revolution of recent weeks that toppled the 15-year-old Kyrgyz regime of Askar Akaev.
He told Russia's "Kommersant" that the revolt had no outside help, not even advice from Ukraine and Georgia, two other ex-Soviet states whose regimes fell recently after street protests.
Bakiev said that the Kyrgyz opposition did not originally seek a revolution, but only fair treatment in presidential election. Those elections, scheduled for autumn, have been rescheduled for 26 June.
