U.S. Says Helicopter Crash In Afghanistan Killed 16

7 April 2005 -- The U.S. military says 13 U.S. soldiers and three civilians employed by the military were killed in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan yesterday.
Lieutenant Cindy Moore today said the death toll might rise to 18 because two people who were likely aboard the flight have yet to be found.

Moore did not give the nationalities of the contractors or missing passengers.

The CH-47 Chinook helicopter crashed in Ghazni Province, 120 kilometers southwest of Kabul, while on a routine mission.

It was the deadliest military air accident since the United States first deployed troops to the country in 2001.
