15 April 2005 -- Turkmenistan resumed natural-gas supplies to Russia today, ending a three-month gas price dispute.
Turkmen President Saparmurat Niyazov and Russian gas giant Gazprom Chairman Aleksei Miller settled the dispute in Turkmenistan's capital Ashgabat.
Turkmenistan wanted to raise the price of natural gas it sells to Russia by about 30 percent. But today's agreement sees the sale price staying the same until 2006.
Earlier this year, Turkmenistan had proposed higher prices to both Russia and Ukraine. Both nations disagreed with the higher rates, and Turkmenistan turned off supplies to them.
Ukraininan officials later accepted the price hike, and Turkmenistan resumed supplying Ukraine. Russia did not accept Turkmenistan's proposal, starting several months of negotiations.
