Clashes Continue In Chechnya, Spread Regionally

21 June 2005 (RFE/RL) -- The Russian military in Chechnya says that unidentified attackers fired automatic weapons in the center of the Chechen capital Grozny today, striking a construction site but causing no casualties.
The building site, on the premises of the Chechen Housing Ministry, is about 150 meters from the Kremlin-backed Chechen State Council.

In an apparently unrelated incident, a fire broke out in the Chechen Justice Ministry overnight, gutting the building but causing no injuries. Russian military headquarters said that a short circuit appears to have caused the blaze.

Also today, police shot and killed two suspected militants in the neighboring Russian region of Ingushetia. The two are charged with shooting at police inspecting a home in the town of Karabulak.
