4 July 2005 -- Russian President Vladimir Putin today hailed the "unshakable" partnership between Russia and the United States in a telegram to his U.S. counterpart George W. Bush congratulating him on the country's independence day.
According to the Kremlin, ties between the two countries were based on "mutual trust and partnership." Putin said he has no doubt that the high level of cooperation between the two countries through coordinated efforts will allow the two countries to counter global threats, fight international terrorism, and broaden trade and economic ties.
The U.S. has expressed growing concerns about steps that Russia has taken away from democracy under Putin, who came to power in 2000.
But the Bush administration considers Russia as an important ally in the war on terrorism.
