7 July 2005 (RFE/RL) -- Western news services are reporting that NATO troops detained the son of Bosnian Serb war crimes suspect Radovan Karadzic today.
Citing unnamed witnesses and "local media," the reports say that NATO soldiers raided the apartment of Sasa Karadzic in Pale, and drove away with him. Pale, near Sarajevo, was a Karadzic stronghold during the 1990s Balkan wars.
NATO has not confirmed the reports.
In May NATO units raided the homes of Karadzic's wife, daughter and son in Pale searching for information about Karadzic's movements.
The UN International Criminal Court for the former Yugoslavia has indicted Karadzic on charges of genocide and war crimes in the 1995 massacre at Srebrenica and other events.
The court and NATO officials charge that Bosnian authorities have been unhelpful in seeking Karadzic's arrest.
There is no information on what, if any charges, have been made against Karadzic's son.
