Tajikistan Seeks Flood Aid

7 July 2005 (RFE/RL) -- Tajikistan today appealed international aid after recent floods killed dozens of people and destroyed thousands of homes.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Igor Sattarov says the floods, which happened in May and June, killed 38 people, destroying roads, bridges, and homes.

In separate developments, Tajik law enforcement authorities on 7 July said that they have seized more than 400 kilograms of drugs this year, nearly half of it heroin.

Tajikistan is a major trafficking route for smugglers moving drugs from Afghanistan to Russia and Europe.
