12 July 2005 (RFE/RL) -- Russian authorities say they have detained another alleged attacker from a 2004 assault on police in the southern Russian region of Ingushetia, in which nearly 90 people were killed.
Deputy Federal Prosecutor Nikolai Shepel said the suspect has also told interrogators information about militant preparations for last year's hostage taking crisis in the North Ossetian town of Beslan.
On 1 September 2004, militants seized more than 1,000 hostages in a school in Beslan. Some 330 people were killed during the crisis. Over 180 of the victims were children.
Ingushetia borders Chechnya and North Ossetia.
A recent increase in attacks in Russia's Caucasus republics has stoked fears that the guerrilla insurgency in Chechnya is spreading to other areas of the North Caucasus.
