15 July 2005 -- Authorities in Egypt have reportedly detained a man suspected of helping to mastermind the 7 July bombings in London was detained near Cairo last night.
ABC television network is reporting that 33-year-old Magdy Elnashar, a U.S.-trained chemist, was arrested in a Cairo suburb and is now being questioned by police, with British agents present.
News agencies quote Egyptian government officials as confirming the report.
Authorities believe the man left Britain two weeks before last week's deadly suicide bombings that killed at least 54 people.
