Georgian Academic Arrested On Embezzlement Charges

9 August 2005 (RFE/RL) -- Judicial authorities in Georgia today said the deputy head of the country's Academy of Sciences had been arrested on embezzlement charges.
Deputy General-Prosecutor Giorgi Janashia told a news briefing in the capital Tbilisi that Gogi Bochorishvili is accused of illegally selling plots of land to a construction firm for the construction of apartment buildings in 2001.

Janashia said Bochorishvili brought the state financial losses worth several million Georgian laris.
