19 August 2005 (RFE/RL) -- Vojislav Seselj, the ultra-nationalist former vice president of Serbia, testified today at the trial of former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic in The Hague.
Seselj, who himself faces war-crimes charges at The Hague, blamed the West for the 1999 Kosovo war. Seselj said Belgrade had aimed at a peaceful resolution of the conflict in the province. He accused the United States of seeking to provoke violence in Kosovo in order to have an excuse to station troops there.
Milosevic faces more than 60 charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity for the 1990s Balkan wars in Croatia, Bosnia, and Kosovo.
Seselj has been charged with war-crimes charges for his role in the 1991-95 Croatian war, the war in Bosnia, and the Kosovo conflict.
He was called to testify by Milosevic's defense team.
