19 August 2005 -- Russian Federal Security Service Director Nikolai Patrushev, said today that Russia's weapons of mass destruction are well protected, but he added that measures to keep them out of terrorist hands must still be improved.
Patrushev spoke after a joint counterterrorism exercise in Kazakhstan. Interfax quoted him as saying terrorists are striving to get access to biological, nuclear, and chemical weapons.
He said the Russian authorities are acting to remove shortcomings in their security systems. Patrushev did not give specifics.
