23 August 2005 (RFE/RL) -- The company that operates Moscow's Domodedovo airport said on 22 August that new security measures have been introduced since last August, when suspected suicide bombers blew up two passenger jets with 90 people on board.
East Line Group Chairman Dmitrii Kamenshchik said that the new measures include X-ray machines that can determine whether passengers are carrying dangerous materials, such as drugs or explosives, hidden inside their bodies.
Another company official, Anna Krasnova, said the airport is now using gas sensors that can reveal minuscule traces of explosives on a passenger's body, or clothing.
Kamenshchik said that the new measures can only minimize the risks of terrorist attacks.
