Indonesia Arrests Prostitutes From China, Russia, Uzbekistan

25 August 2005 (RFE/RL) -- Reports say police in Indonesia have arrested 68 prostitutes from China, Russia, and Uzbekistan in a series of raids in the capital Jakarta.
Indonesian authorities are quoted as saying the women are expected to be deported back to their home countries.

Of those arrested, 63 were reported to be Chinese, three were Uzbeks, and two were Russians.

They were reported arrested in raids on bars, saunas, and massage parlors.

Reports say prostitution is common in Indonesia despite it being illegal.
