8 September 2005 -- Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili today said he was confident his Ukrainian counterpart, Viktor Yushchenko, had made the right decision when he decided to dismiss the government of Prime Minister Yuliya Tymoshenko.
Saakashvili made the remarks while on a visit to Georgia's Black Sea port of Batumi. "[Yushchenko's decision] did not come as a surprise to me. I knew he had been considering that for quite some time," he said. "He knows very well what he has to do. He knows very well how to accelerate the development of this country which, to us [Georgians], is very important."
Yushchenko today charged Dniepropetrovsk Governor Yuriy Yekhanurov to form a new cabinet. Yekhanurov said his first task would be to ensure suitability in Ukraine.
Saakashvili and Yushchenko have developed close friendship ties since both came to power, in 2004 and 2003 respectively.
