Six Police, Top Rebel Commander Killed In Chechnya

17 September 2005 -- Seven police officers were killed and five wounded over a 24 period in Chechnya and a rebel website posted information that a leading commander was killed.
Five of the policemen died in fighting in the villages of Dargo and Tezin-Kala and another policeman was injured.

An attack on a police vehicle in the Chechen capital Grozny left two other policemen dead and four wounded.

Meanwhile, a Chechen rebel website reported that commander Akhmad Avdorkhanov was killed in fighting on 12 September.

Avdorkhanov was the second top separatist leader to be killed this year.

Chechen rebel leader Aslan Maskhadov was killed in March.
