Kyrgyz Parliament Strips Akaev Son Of Immunity

19 September 2005 (RFE/RL) -- Kyrgyzstan's parliament today stripped Aidar Akaev, the son of ousted President Askar Akaev of his parliamentary immunity.
Kyrgyz Prosecutor-General Azimbek Beknazarov says Akaev is at the center of four investigations.

"The investigation will now begin in real earnest. His property will be seized, orders for his arrest will be sent to border checkpoints," Beknazarov said.

Akaev is currently staying in Russia.

Beknazarov says that three criminal charges have been filed against Akaev, including money laundering and abuse of office.

Akaev has denied any wrongdoing.
